Soun's 25-year agenda in focus
The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, was represented at the event by High Chief Kasali Oladipupo, the Abese of Ogbomosoland, who performed the ceremonial opening. He said the centre fits into the monarch's 25-year development agenda for Ogbomoso, which puts education and economic growth at the top of the list.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Adeolu Afolabi of LAUTECH's Department of Cybersecurity said the centre could help position Ogbomoso's youths for opportunities in the global economy. He noted that automation is changing a large share of today's jobs, which makes technical and adaptable skills more important than ever.
The university's Chancellor, Prof. David Seyi Akanbi, said the institution received a provisional operating licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2025 after 11 years of development, and that its aim is to build a globally competitive workforce through practical, tech-focused education.
Why it matters
With a large youth population and LAUTECH already drawing students into the city, Ogbomoso is well placed to grow as a tech and skills hub. Centres like this one give school leavers and graduates another route into in-demand careers without leaving home.
