The Soun's 25-Year Development Agenda: What We Know So Far

Since his installation as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland in September 2023, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, has repeatedly spoken about a long-term vision for the city: a 25-year development agenda. While a full public document has not been widely published, several actions and statements give a clear picture of its priorities.

1. Education and skills

At the October 2026 opening of the A-Global skills centre, the Soun's representative, High Chief Kasali Oladipupo (the Abese of Ogbomosoland), said the agenda prioritises education and economic growth. Bringing new learning centres and scholarships to Ogbomoso is part of that plan.

2. Engaging the diaspora

Ogbomoso has a large population of indigenes living across Nigeria and abroad. The Soun, a former pastor in the United States, has held meetings with Ogbomoso natives in the US to brainstorm on the development plan and to encourage investment back home.

3. Water and basic amenities

In July 2026, the Soun commissioned four new boreholes donated by Fola Adeola, saying the palace was committed to improving the quality of life of the people. Clean water remains a pressing need in parts of the city.

4. Security and public order

The monarch's decision to cancel the 2026 Egungun festival over violence showed a firm stance on public safety, an issue that sits at the base of any development plan.

5. Communication

The palace has also launched official social media handles to share information directly with the public, which helps residents follow announcements and avoid fake news.

What residents want to see next

  • A published, detailed plan with yearly targets.

  • Clear roles for government, the diaspora and the private sector.

  • Regular progress reports to the community.
