The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) says its members have arrested a number of suspected kidnappers in Oriire and Olorunsogo local government areas of Oyo State, according to a report by Ogbomoso Insight published on October 27, 2026.

What we know

  • The arrests took place in rural communities in Oriire LGA, in the Ogbomoso zone, and neighbouring Olorunsogo LGA.

  • The suspects are expected to be handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.

  • Details such as the number of suspects and their identities have not been officially confirmed by the police at the time of writing.

Note: Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Security in the Ogbomoso axis

The arrests come months after the Oriire school abduction, which shook the region. Since then, community groups such as the OPC and vigilante groups, including the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), have stepped up patrols alongside the police, Amotekun and other agencies.

The VGN unit in Oriire, led by Commander Omowale, has also called for compensation for members who died while helping security forces during the abduction crisis.

Stay safe

  • Report suspicious movement to the police, Amotekun or your local vigilante group.

  • Avoid lonely farm routes at night where possible, and travel in groups.

  • Share only verified information to avoid panic and ethnic profiling.
