When people talk about Ogbomosoland, they usually mean five local government areas (LGAs) in the northern part of Oyo State. Together they make up the Ogbomoso zone, one of the state's main administrative and political blocs.

1. Ogbomoso North

Headquarters: Kinnira. Ogbomoso North covers much of the city centre, including the palace of the Soun and busy areas such as Oja Igbo and Takie.

2. Ogbomoso South

Headquarters: Arowomole. Ogbomoso South covers the southern part of the city and nearby communities. It hosts residential areas, schools and markets, and links the city to the Ibadan side of the expressway.

3. Oriire

Headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile. Oriire is a large, mostly rural LGA known for farming. It has many villages and farm settlements and has been in the news in 2026 because of security challenges.

4. Surulere

Headquarters: Iresa-Adu. Surulere is an agricultural area with towns such as Iresa-Adu, Iresa-Apa and Iregba. Farming, including cashew and food crops, is a major source of income.

5. Ogo-Oluwa

Headquarters: Ajaawa. Ogo-Oluwa lies to the south-west of Ogbomoso and is known for farming and its close-knit rural communities.

Why it matters

Knowing your LGA helps when you need local services, register to vote, apply for state programmes or bursaries, or follow local elections. Many community scholarships, such as the Ogbomoso Pivotal Club bursary, are open to indigenes of all five LGAs.
